Long Distance Hurdle Betting Odds
There’s a stamina-sapping event taking place at Newbury Racecourse on Friday, with the Long Distance Hurdle taking place over three miles and half a furlong. Strong Leader will be out to follow up a winning seasonal debut with another victory, with Olly Murphy training an eight-year-old who could be vying with Honesty Policy as far as favourite is concerned.
The Gordon Elliott-trained charge was able to score on three consecutive occasions at the back end of the previous campaign and boasts solid credentials. Impose Toi and Take No Chances are seven-year-olds who also have a strong chance of success, with Hewick an older adversary who could well be in the shake up over this long distance.
2025 Long Distance Hurdle Betting Tips
Strong Leader could be the one to beat in the Long Distance Hurdle, with this being the penultimate race on the Friday card at Newbury Racecourse. The eight-year-old should go well in this Grade 2 encounter, with the horse last seen winning the bet365 Hurdle over three miles. This victory came in early November over three miles and laid down a marker.
Honesty Policy was second on a seasonal debut when running in a Grade One novice hurdle at Punchestown, with the horse coming within a whisker of beating favourite Jasmin De Vaux. That came after three consecutive successes at Navan, Leopardstown and Aintree, with the latter of these victories being in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle.
That was over two miles and four furlongs, with the horse likely to operate well in this encounter. Gordon Elliott trains this horse for JP McManus and the latter has another leading contender in the race. Impose Toi was second on a seasonal debut and that was followed by a victory at Aintree in early November.
This win came in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle over three miles, half a furlong. There was plenty to like about a success by over three lengths. The charge also performed well in the Coral Cup Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival to finish second, with Take No Chances also having a lively chance after a runner-up spot for the Skeltons last time out.
2024 Long Distance Hurdle Tips
Langer Dan returns to the track for a seasonal debut and the eight-year-old has a fantastic opportunity to win the Coral Long Distance Hurdle. The Dan Skelton-trained runner wasn’t out of the first three in his previous three races, with the latest effort being a second-placed finish out of eight runners at Sandown Park.
There was a superb victory in the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, with this coming over two miles and five furlongs, although Strong Leader is trading at a similar price. The seven-year-old was able to snare a win at Aintree when obliging by four and a half lengths. This came after a solid showing in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham when being beaten by Noble Yeats and Paisley Park.
Crambo has been unable to make an impression in the previous two races, with the seven-year-old available at a backable price to return to form. Perhaps we should reflect on the victory at Ascot back in December when beating Paisley Park by a short head and that came after a previously bright showing at Haydock.
Beacon Edge was able to land a couple of victories last season, with Gordon Elliott training a ten-year-old who was successful in his previous outing. There was a success at Wetherby in early November, with that coming after a solid showing at Cheltenham when the horse ran brightly in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle.
2023 Coral Long Distance Hurdle Tips
Marie’s Rock is a talented mare who is regarded as a strong contender to secure a victory in the Coral Long Distance Hurdle, with the filly benefitting from a weight allowance when going up against the other five runners. The Nicky Henderson-trained runner was able to win the Relkeel Hurdle on New Year’s Day last season before running at Cheltenham and Aintree.
However, it was an underwhelming performance in the Mares’ Hurdle at the Festival before finishing second in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree, with the horse finding Sire Du Berlais too strong over three miles, half a furlong. It will be interesting to see what tactics are deployed at Newbury on good to soft ground.
Paisley Park is back challenging at the grand old age of eleven, with the Emma Lavelle-trained runner finishing seventh out of eleven runners in the Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, although the same runner was only beaten by a neck by favourite Champ in this encounter last season and could go well.
Dashel Drasher is a ten-year-old who runs for trainer Jeremy Scott, with the horse having had a recent outing at Wetherby Racecourse. The ten-year-old finished third out of six runners in the bet365 Hurdle over three miles, with the same runner finishing well down the order in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree and perhaps it’s between the front two in the betting.
2022 Long Distance Hurdle Tips
Proschema wasn’t particularly convincing when finishing well down the order in the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow on 8 October, although the seven-year-old bounced back three weeks later when triumphing at Wetherby. The victory in the bet365 Hurdle on good to soft ground marks him out as a potential Stayers’ Hurdle winner at the Cheltenham Festival.
It was a ten length win at Wetherby, with Dan Skelton now hoping for a repeat performance and the bookies are now trading shorter than the 9/2 SP before he obliged last time out. Second in that race was Thomas Darby and the Olly Murphy-trained runner will line up in this contest and look to frank the form.
Champ will make his seasonal debut, with the ten-year-old running for Nicky Henderson. A third-placed finish at Aintree was the last time we saw the runner, with Sire De Berlais and Flooring Porter finishing a long way clear of the chasing pack. Previously, there was a fourth-placed finish in the 2022 Stayers’ Hurdle.
Paisley Park has enjoyed a superb career and has a Stayers’ Hurdle under his belt, although there has been just one win in the past eight outings and it’s easy to oppose the ten-year-old. In the Stayers’ Champion Hurdle at Punchestown in April, the horse finished behind four others and Dashel Drasher looks a better prospect from an each way point of view.
