King George Meeting Takes Centre Stage
After horse racing fans have celebrated Christmas, many of them then pick up their racing guide and study the form for Boxing Day. While there are a stack of meetings on 26 December, none are bigger than the King George VI Chase Meeting which features the King George itself.
This is a Grade 1 race run over three miles and features some of the best chasers in the land. Kempton differs to a course like Cheltenham in the sense that it’s a good deal flatter. There are eighteen fences to overcome in the King George and it’s a race where horses often win more than once.
For example, punters favourite Kauto Star triumphed on four consecutive occasions between 2006-2009. The Paul Nicholls-trained star then returned in 2011 to win for a fifth time as an eleven-year-old.
Kicking King, Long Run and Silviniaco Conti have all won the race more than once in recent years, with trainer Paul Nicholls having claimed ten King George VI Chase wins.
Bet on the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton
Kempton also plays host to the Christmas Hurdle which is a two-mile encounter which also takes place on 26 December. This race is run over the same distance as the Champion Hurdle the following March and therefore means you will see this as the final race before the Cheltenham Festival.
Faugheen was a dual winner of this race in 2014 and 2015, although it’s usually British horses that win the race, with Binocular claiming the spoils in 2010 and 2011, while jockey AP McCoy also won the race in 2012 and 2013 on board Darlan and My Tent or Yours respectively.
There is also the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase that takes place on 26 December, while there’s another excellent card at Kempton on 27 December which means punters can place more racing bets on the action.
The two most prominent horse betting races on this day are the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase and Desert Orchid Chase. They are both run over two miles and they are Grade Two races, with the first of these races appealing more to younger horses.
Kempton Hosts Other National Hunt meetings
Kempton punters can fill their boots when it comes to several other races that take place on the National Hunt calendar. The Lanzarote Hurdle is run over two miles and five furlongs, while there are also some exciting chase and hurdle races that take place in February.
The BetBright Chase is likely to be renamed after the bookmaker was folded although this is still a big money race that attracts star performers, with other races on the National Hunt scene being the Adonis Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle, Pendil Novices’ Chase and Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle.
The Flat Racing Season Takes Off at Kempton
Kempton also has an all-weather flat racing track for that particular season, with several meetings available for betting purposes. Between March and April, we can enjoy the Magnolia Stakes, Rosebery Stakes and Easter Stakes. There is also the Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes in April.
Later in the Flat season, there is an all-weather Flat meeting in September and that plays host to the Sirenia Stakes and September Stakes. In November, Kempton Park also has a floodlit meeting where the Floodlit Stakes is among the races being run.

There's a cracking card of races at Kempton Park on Saturday and the second encounter is the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle. This is a two-mile heat and Precious Man looks the one to beat, with the Dan Skelton-trained charge having claimed two victories this term. One Horse Town has been hugely successful for Harry Derham and might also feature.

The Pendil Novices' Chase is the third race out of seven on the Kempton Park racecard this Saturday. It's a Grade Two encounter over two miles, four and a half furlongs, with Jax Junior heading the betting market for this eight-runner affair. Go West has run well this season and the eight-year-old should produce a bold run for Paul Nicholls.

There could be as many as fifteen runners lining up in the Dovecote Novices' Hurdle this weekend. It's a two-mile encounter on testing ground which is expected to be good to soft. Hamlet's Night has regularly been featuring in the first two home this season and could battle it out with Double Measure and Klub De Reve at Kempton Park.

Iroko has a strong pedigree and it's no surprise to find the eight-year-old trading as favourite for the Ladbrokes Trophy Handicap Chase. The JP McManus-owned horse has provided some strong efforts this season, with Katate Dori having run well for Sam Thomas last time out. The Jukebox Kid has also run well a number of times this term.

The Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle is one of the highlight races on Saturday's Kempton Park card. The betting market is wide open, with Lanesborough boasting impressive form and the seven-year-old has enjoyed consecutive wins. A Pai De Nom also has a great strike rate considering that there has been three wins in the past four efforts.

Sir Gino has been out of action for a year although the bookies are taking no chances with their price for the favourite to win the Christmas Hurdle. Nicky Henderson saddles a horse who has previously demonstrated bags of ability, with Anzadam capable of obliging over two miles for trainer Willie Mullins.
