Aintree Bowl Chase Betting Odds

There are no less than five horses trading at single figures when it comes to the Bowl Chase on Day One of the Grand National Aintree meeting. There’s not a great deal to separate the first two in the betting, with Grey Dawning having landed a victory last time out although there could be a smart showing from Spillane’s Tower based on previous form.

The JP McManus-owned runner hasn’t run since Boxing Day at Kempton Park, with Gaelic Warrior having been in the frame three times this season. Stage Star is an older adversary running for Paul Nicholls, with the horse finishing second last time out, while Ahoy Senor has been struggling to complete some recent outings.

2025 Bowl Chase Tips

Grey Dawning was on target last time out, with the horse landing a victory in the bet365 Premier Chase on 1 March, with the 5/6 favourite able to beat Iroko by two and a half lengths. That was over two miles, seven and a half furlongs, with the horse bouncing back after the charge was pulled up on Boxing Day when running in the King George VI Chase.

Spillane’s Tower is an interesting contender who was well behind Banbridge in the King George when coming home seventeen lengths off the pace. The 11/4 favourite was found wanting in the dying embers of the race, with the runner having previously finished second out of eight runners when the 18/1 shot finished second to Fact To File.

Gaelic Warrior is another seven-year-old with solid credentials, with the horse having finished third out of eight runners at Leopardstown in early February. The 6/4 favourite was found wanting and lost by fourteen lengths, with the horse previously landing the spoils in the Paddy’s Reward Club Chase in a previous race.

Stage Star was able to finish second out of six horses when narrowly being edged out by L’Homme Presse in the Betfair Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham, with the Paul Nicholls-trained runner having just missed out to the odds-on favourite. However, it’s hard to trust a horse who has been out of the reckoning in the previous encounters.

2024 Aintree Bowl Chase Tips

Gerri Colombe was only second best to Galopin Des Champs in the Cheltenham Gold Cup and the eight-year-old could be the one to beat when it comes to the Aintree Bowl Chase. It was a very solid performance to lose by just three and a half lengths behind the winner on that day and perhaps the Gordon Elliott-trained runner can oblige in Liverpool.

The horse had previously been seen losing by a considerable distance when missing out to Galopin Des Champs, with that coming after beating Envoi Allen in November when there were four runners at Down Royal. Gerri Colombe was previously able to win at Aintree at last year’s National Festival when winning the Mildmay Novices’ Chase.

Shishkin is a talented ten-year-old who has enjoyed a decorated career, with the horse having claimed a victory at Newbury in February before giving the Cheltenham Festival a wide berth. This came after unseating his rider in the King George VI Chase and that race was won by Hewick who could go well in this race.

The nine-year-old was an impressive performer at Kempton Park on Boxing Day when fending off the challenge of five other runners. There was plenty to like about a victory by one and a half lengths, fending off Bravemansgame. However, Corbetts Cross has to be respected and the seven-year-old has picked up a couple of wins this season.

2023 Aintree Bowl Chase Tips

Clan Des Obeaux has achieved consecutive successes in the Aintree Bowl Chase over the past two years, although the baton will be passed to another horse this time around. Shishkin is likely to run over a longer distance than the Ryanair Chase and perhaps this will bring things more into his favour after being beaten by Envoi Allen at Cheltenham.

It’s hard to trust Shishkin at short prices considering punters have had their fingers burnt too many times backing the Henderson runner, with Conflated having run well in the Cheltenham Gold Cup when finishing third at a big price and trainer Gordon Elliott will feel confident this charge has a cracking chance here.

Perhaps Conflated shouldn’t have been underestimated by the bookies considering his impressive Leopardstown performance when winning the Savills Chase, with this Grade One encounter over the festive period seeing the runner impress over three miles on soft ground. It certainly looks to be a better option than Shiskhin.

Ahoy Senor and Bravemansgame are also trading at a similar price, with the former having fallen in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, while the latter was really impressive when putting it up to Galopin Des Champs before finishing narrowly second. A Plus Tard should also be considered when you reflect on the horse’s previous achievements for Henry de Bromhead.
