Veterans Handicap Chase Betting Odds

On Friday 14 November, the November Meeting at Cheltenham begins and there’s an excellent card for punters to enjoy. That includes the Veterans' Handicap Chase which is for older horses who will be looking for a last hurrah at this famous racetrack. There are some famous names in the field and that includes Fugitif who has achieved plenty in the past.

Gunsight Ridge had some bright performances last term and has to be included on any shortlist, with Lord Baddesley having been successful on a seasonal debut. Eldorado Allen is still going strong at the age of 11, with Mister Coffey another horse who has produced bright performances and can’t be readily disregarded.

2025 Veterans' Handicap Chase Betting Tips

Fugitif has as good a chance as anyone else of winning the Veterans' Handicap Chase, with Richard Hobson saddling a runner who was last seen running at Cheltenham back in April. It was a solid effort in a competitive field and came after finishing down the order in the Plate Handicap Chase. However, the horse has a ton of experience when it comes to running at this track.

Gunsight Ridge is another ten-year-old with solid credentials. Olly Murphy saw his horse finish fourth in a field of fourteen at Aintree last time out. That was a bold effort at odds of 28/1 in the Red Rum Handicap Chase, with that coming after a victory at Sandown Park in February. That was an 11/1 success and we like the look of this runner.

Lord Baddesley has a bold chance as well. There was a victory for the Anthony Honeyball-trained charge, with the horse scoring in a three-runner race at Newbury Racecourse. That came in early November and he might benefit from the run. The fact that the horse won that encounter by eighteen lengths is eye-catching but previous form is not.

Eldorado Allen runs for Joe Tizzard and there was a midfield finish at Haydock Park last time out. That came after running reasonably well in the Topham Handicap Chase at Aintree. You have to go back to December 2024 for the horse’s best recent form when a third placed finish was landed in a field of ten over two miles, four and a half furlongs.

2024 Veterans' Handicap Chase Tips

Shakem Up’arry wasn’t too convincing last time out when finishing well down the order in the Topham Chase, with the 5/1 favourite not jumping fluently on that occasion. This came after a fine showing at the Cheltenham Festival when recording a victory in the Plate Handicap Chase and that was over the same distance as this upcoming race.

Dashel Drasher was able to finish third on his seasonal debut and the Jeremy Scott-trained eleven-year-old ran reasonably well in the 1965 Chase over two miles and five furlongs. However, the horse is yet to win in his previous five outings and the last success was in early December 2023 when there was a triumph in the Coral Long Distance Hurdle.

Eldorado Allen is carrying a touch more weight and the ten-year-old was second in a Veterans’ Handicap Chase at Warwick when finishing well behind Torn And Frayed. That performance came after wind surgery which followed a lowly performance in the Aintree Grand National although the horse has a strong pedigree.

Copperhead has been producing the goods recently, with Joe Tizzard seeing his charge rack up a number of recent wins. There was a victory at Aintree towards the end of October, with that coming by a distance of fourteen lengths. That came after a triumph in the Unibet Veterans’ Handicap Chase at Chepstow in October.

2023 Veterans' Handicap Chase Tips

Le Ligerien has been installed at the head of the betting market for the Unibet Middle Distance Chase Series Veterans' Handicap Chase, with the same horse recently running well at Kempton Park. Over two miles, four and a half furlongs, the runner was able to oblige by seven and a half lengths at betting odds of 6/1 when beating favourite Danny Kirwan.

However, the horse previously got pulled up at Chepstow and perhaps there is merit looking for an alternative in the market. Nicky Henderson has Mill Green in the race and the eleven-year-old should be capable of running well at the weight allowance. A second-placed finish occurred at Warwick when the runner was second to Thomas Darby.

Go Steady was also second last time out and the eleven-year-old will line up for trainer Dan Skelton here. There’s a much lower weight allowance than several of the other leading contenders and this horse finished runner-up in a competitive race at Uttoxeter Racecourse, losing by a neck to joint-favourite Sound and Fury.

Ibleo is something of an unknown after not making an appearance for over two years, with Venetia Williams hoping that the ten-year-old is somewhere back to his best here. Other ones for the shortlist include Storm Control, Top Ville Ben and Lord Du Mesnil, with all of these horses trading at a similar price to land a victory.
