Silver Cup Handicap Chase Betting Odds

Ascot Racecourse takes centre stage on Saturday 21 December, with Victtorino likely to run a big race for Venetia Williams and build on a third-placed finish last time out. The six-year-old is likely to go off favourite, although there are a number of other interesting contenders including The Changing Man and Trelawne.

Venetia Williams also has Fontaine Collonges running and the nine-year-old was able to land a victory last time out, with Snipe able to secure back to back runner-up spots in his outings this term. Doctor Ken could also make an impression and there could be more to come from Threeunderthrufive who runs for Paul Nicholls.

2024 Silver Cup Handicap Chase Tips

Victtorino was able to finish third last time out, with Venetia Williams saddling a runner who was able to run well out of a field of thirteen runners. The six-year-old previously pulled up in the Cheltenham Festival, with the horse previously running well at Ascot when landing fourth place out of a field of nine runners.

The Changing Man was able to secure second spot in the previous outing, with Joe Tizzard able to land a runner-up berth at Newcastle at the end of November. That came in the Rehearsal Handicap Chase, with that coming after the horse falling at Wincanton although there was previously a strong performance at Uttoxeter.

Trelawne was able to score in his previous showing, with a success coming at Haydock Park where the horse was able to triumph over two miles, five and a half furlongs. In the Betfair Exchange Graduation Chase, there was a half a length victory over odds-on favourite Iroko, with the horse previously falling in the Ultima Handicap Chase.

Fontaine Collonges was successful in a previous outing and he’s another runner that could give Venetia Williams a success. There was everything to like about a previous success at Haydock towards the end of November, with a twelve-length success coming in the Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase and an each-way bet could be on the cards.

2023 Silver Cup Tips

Blackjack Magic was able to score at Wincanton last time out, with the horse beating ten other runners and the Anthony Honeyball-trained charge obliged by a distance of three lengths when beating favourite Threeunderthrufive. It could be the same two romping home in this three mile encounter, with Blackjack Magic having won at Uttoxeter Racecourse at the beginning of April.

Midnight River was a faller in his previous race, with the Dan Skelton-trained runner falling in his last outing when running prominently in the Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase. Previously to that was hardly a convincing third place out of four horses at Wetherby, although there was a handicap chase victory back in April.

Hascouer Clement is a younger adversary who has racked up back to back wins, with the six-year-old being favourably weighted for this encounter. Victories at Galway and Cheltenham set the horse up for a potentially big run here, with the latest win coming over three miles and one furlong, with the Gavin Cromwell-trained charge one for the shortlist.

Complete Unknown has also been in the winners’ enclosure this season, with the seven-year-old finishing tenth out of twenty runners at Newbury at the beginning of December. Let’s not forget that the horse was second to Gerri Colombe in the Mildmay Novices’ Chase over three miles and one furlong, with this being a lively contender.

2022 Ascot Silver Cup Tips

We’re looking forward to an open 2022 Silver Cup and it could be all about the horses that Venetia Williams has entered for the race. The Grand National winning trainer will have high hopes that Fontaines Collonges can put together a strong showing, with the seven-year-old winning at Haydock Racecourse last time out and there was plenty to like about a win on soft ground.

Williams also has Quick Wave running and there was a smart win at Sandown Racecourse on 3 December which could set the horse up nicely for this contest. Sent off at a starting price of 11/2, it was a four-length win and that was over a monster distance of three miles and five furlongs which suggests that the trip won’t be an issue here.

Our Power won the Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase on 29 October 2022, with that race potentially acting as a barometer for what will happen in the Silver Cup. Interestingly, it could pay to see which horse Charlie Deutsch decides to ride for this contest as he’s been on several of the leading contenders.

Danny Kirwan was second in that particular race and has two lengths to find on the winner, with this horse also prominent in the betting. Paul Nicholls saw his horse win a Handicap Chase at Ascot last March and this could be a runner that continues to show the requisite improvement to land a victory.

2021 Silver Cup Betting Tips

The 2021 Silver Cup Handicap Chase will take place at Ascot Racecourse on 18 December 2021, with this being a stamina-sapping three-mile encounter and it will be interesting to see which runners act best when it comes to ground that is likely to be soft.

Can Remastered Claim 2021 Silver Cup Win?

David Pipe could have a talented runner in the form of Remastered and the horse has won at this racecourse recently, with the eight-year-old having won the Bateaux London Reynoldstown Novices' Chase back in February. Tom Scudamore was on board as the runner kept on strongly and this could be a good pointer as to what might happen in this race.

More recently, the horse lined up in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase where Remastered fell four fences out. However, the runner was travelling sweetly at this point in time and much depends on whether the horse has recovered to take his place here. Third place in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle suggests that this could be a good each-way wager.

Lalor Could Run Big Race for Paul Nicholls

Paul Nicholls has a strong track record when it comes to training horses that can compete over longer distances and also over fences. He could now have a winner of this race in the form of Lalor, with the nine-year-old having plenty of experience and he ran a game race when finishing third in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.

That was the first run for Nicholls after the horse was at a previous stable and perhaps the wind surgery has benefitted a runner who was previously pulled up on his previous two outings.

Who Are the Other Silver Cup Favourites?

Nicholls is likely to have a number of other entrants in the Silver Cup and that includes Grand Sancy, with the seven-year-old having run a solid race on his last race. Harry Skelton gave the horse a decent spin in the Sir Peter O'Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase when finishing fourth although further improvement is needed to win this one.

We prefer the chances of Good Boy Bobby, with the eight-year-old trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and he has rarely been outside of the places in his recent outings. The runner was beaten by a head when running in the Betfair Exchange Rehearsal Handicap Chase although it was a solid performance over two miles and seven furlongs.

Trainer Kerry Lee could have an interesting runner in Demachine, with the seven-year-old having achieved fifth place in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase, although the horse was one of several who finished well behind the front two in that particular race.

2020 Ascot Silver Cup Betting Tips

No more than eighteen horses can line up for the Silver Cup which will take place on the same Ascot racecard as the Long Walk Hurdle, with several leading chasers set to line up and this is a great race for an each-way considering how open the betting market is.

Who Are the Ascot Silver Cup Betting Favourites?

The Conditional looks as though he will go off as the market leader to win the Ascot Silver Cup, with the David Bridgwater-trained charge having run very well at Newbury Racecourse when finishing third in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase behind Cloth Cap and Aye Right, with the horse outrunning his odds of 14/1.

We’re big fans of the horse and this is not the first time he’s finished in the frame for a big race, with Brendan Powell riding him to success in the Ultima Handicap Chase on Day 1 of the 2020 Cheltenham Festival, with the horse having now demonstrated his jumping ability on more than one occasion.

If The Conditional doesn’t win, there are several other lively contenders and Espoir Du Guye is the second favourite in the betting, with Venetia Williams having high hopes for a runner that recently won the Coral Handicap Chase over two miles and five furlongs and this was on soft ground which could bode well this time around.

Itchy Feet and Kildisart are the other horses that catch the eye on the Ascot race card, with the latter having finished second behind The Conditional in the Ultima Handicap Chase, although the recent Ladbrokes Trophy Chase saw the horse land seventh place and he needs improvement this time around.

Itchy Feet was second to Imperial Aura at Ascot and could return to the track to run a strong race, with each-way punters likely to jump on the selection.

The History of the Ascot Silver Cup

The Ascot Silver Cup has been held at Ascot Racecourse since 1965 and now forms part of an exciting Ascot Racecard, with legendary horse Arkle having been the second winner of this event. Trainer Nicky Henderson has an excellent recent record after saddling Gold Present and Valtor to victory, although Anthony Honeyball achieved a rare double when landing the spoils with Regal Encore in 2016 before repeating the trick in 2019.
