Uttoxeter Racecourse is the most prestigious in the Midlands, with this left-handed track hosting the Midlands Grand National, while there are several other high-class meetings that take place here every year.

This oval racecourse has a circumference of one mile and two furlongs, with the track relatively flat, although there are undulations on the “back straight” and there is then a downhill run before the home straight.

Shortly after the Cheltenham Festival and before the Aintree Grand National, racegoers have the chance to enjoy the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter and this meeting is the biggest at this Staffordshire racecourse.

The Midlands National was first run in 1969 and initially took place over a distance of four miles and two furlongs, with this being increased to four miles and four furlongs in 1977. However, the distance was reduced to four miles in 1991 and the current distance for the race is four miles and one furlong.

No horse has ever won the Midlands Grand National more than once, with Potters Corner the most recent winner in 2019, while Regal Flow, Chase The Spud and Firebird Flyer have also been recent victors.

David Pipe has a wonderful record in the race as a trainer and he registered four consecutive wins between 2012-2015, with Minella Four Star, Master Overseer, Big Occasion and Goulanes the winners.

Enjoy the Summer Cup and Other Big Meetings

The Summer Cup is the other Listed race that takes place at Uttoxeter Racecourse, with this also a National Hunt handicap steeplechase, with horses aged five or older allowed to enter.

The race takes place over a distance of three miles and two furlongs, with the event taking place in late June or early July. The race was first ran as the Summer National over a distance of four miles, with the most recent winner being Brave Eagle in 2019.
