Game Spirit Chase Betting Odds

The fourth race on Saturday's Newbury card is the William Hill Game Spirit Chase. Run over two miles, half a furlong, there are nine horses entered for an encounter which is likely to be on soft ground. Nicky Henderson is no stranger to success in the big races and will feel confident that Lulamba can continue the winning habit.

It's been three straight wins for the five-year-old this term and further progress is anticipated. There are other notable contenders, with Master Chewy having run well when finishing runner-up last time out. Saint Segal hasn't been out of the first two across four appearances this term, with Steel Ally next in the betting.

2026 Game Spirit Chase Betting Tips

Lulamba is a potential superstar and he hasn't looked back since finishing second in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham last year. Nicky Henderson's charge was a superb winner at Punchestown in early May, with the horse then taking well to the bigger obstacles at Exeter. There was everything to like about the ten length success over two miles, one and a half furlongs.

More recently, the five-year-old scored at Sandown in early December. This came in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase, with this being a Grade One success although this could be a tougher one to win. Not least because of the calibre of the other horses lining up. Master Chewy is one of them and the nine-year-old is a strong contender.

There's a slight concern that the Twiston-Davies-trained runner hasn't landed a victory this term, although it was a solid effort at Kempton Park in January. The 9/1 shot ran well to finish behind Edwardstone in the Silviniaco Conti Chase after struggling to live with a livelier pace in the King George VI Chase.

Saint Segal and Steel Ally come next in the betting market. The former is trained by Jane Williams and hasn't been out of the first two this season. He's had four runs and includes victories at Kelso and Chepstow. Last time out was a second-placed effort when finishing ten lengths behind Thistle Ask in the Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Handicap Chase.

2025 William Hill Game Spirit Chase Tips

Sir Gino is a quality runner who has been passing all tests with flying colours, with the five-year-old having obliged with a victory at Kempton Park last time out. Nicky Henderson trains a horse who obliged as the 8/13 favourite in the Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase, with plenty to like about a victory where Ballyburn was beaten by seven and a half lengths.

Sir Gino was also winner of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle Racecourse, with an eight-length success being achieved against Lump Sum and we can also trace a success back to Aintree where there was a victory in the Boodles Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle and this horse is likely to be a popular selection for racing accumulators.

Matata has been in good nick this season, with the horse having claimed either a runner-up spot or a victory in all four showings this term. Nigel Twiston-Davies saddles a performer who produced a strong effort at Windsor when landing a victory in the Great Park Handicap Chase, with that being a ten-length success.

Edwardstone is a talented eleven-year-old trained by Alan King, with the horse having finished third last time out when finishing ten lengths behind Jonbon at Ascot in January. This came after finishing second out of seven runners at Kempton Park, with Libberty Hunter having landed a victory last time out.

2024 Game Spirit Chase Tips

There are six runners set to go to post for the Game Spirit Chase and the racing betting market looks to be an intriguing one. Boothill has landed back to back victories this season, with the horse registering consecutive successes at Newbury. Both of these successes came over two miles and one furlong, although the horse was found wanting at Kempton last time out.

Sent off as the 11/8 favourite in the Desert Orchid Handicap Chase, the runner fell in a race that was won by Editeur De Gite, although there are still going to be punters keen to wager on a horse that could be battling it out with Edwardstone when it comes to favouritism. The latter has yet to win on any of his three outings this season.

Alan King will hope that the horse starts to find some form ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, with the runner finishing fourth out of five runners in a recent encounter at Kempton Park. Previously to this, there was a credible performance when finishing second to Jonbon at Sandown Park in December and he wasn’t too far behind.

Editeur De Gite has shown patchy form so far this season but did win the Desert Orchid Chase before finishing dead last out of five runners at Cheltenham towards the end of January. Funambule Sivola is also trading at single figure betting odds, with the horse having struggled to make an impact this season for trainer Venetia Williams.

2023 Game Spirit Chase Tips

The bookies are taking no chances when it comes to the betting odds for Greaneteen in the Game Spirit Chase, with the nine-year-old now trading at heavy odds-on for success. Harry Cobden will be on board the runner that finished second to Edwardstone in the Tingle Creek Chase. Although the horse was beaten by nine lengths, he did finish comfortably ahead of Shishkin.

The horse did make a seasonal debut successfully when winning the Haldon Cup at Exeter Racecourse, with that being a seven-length victory and the runner is likely to shorten for the Queen Mother Champion Chase if we see an impressive performance. Back in April, there was a win at 11/8 in the bet365 Celebration Chase.

Jonbon is the class entrant in the race although the Nicky Henderson-trained runner is likely to run in the Kingmaker Hurdle at Warwick Racecourse according to the horse racing betting odds. Funambule Sivola runs for trainer Venetia Williams and the eight-year-old has got improvement to find after some underwhelming performances.

However, there is a good horse lurking underneath the surface and we saw this runner finish second to Energumene in the Queen Mother Champion Chase last season, with the horse potentially bouncing back to form after wind surgery. We’re likely to see a small field and it could be worth putting Greaneteen in a multiple bet.
