Henry VIII Novices Chase Betting Odds

We’re excited to see how the Betfair Henry VIII Novices' Chase pans out, with a small field lining up to compete over one mile, seven and a half furlongs. Much depends on the ground conditions, although Lulamba is certain to be sent off as favourite. Nicky Henderson trains a four-year-old who has already clocked up some notable wins this term.

The favourite has five others to beat and this includes Lump Sum who runs for Sam Thomas. The seven-year-old has been in the winners’ enclosure this season, with Be Aware the Dan Skelton-trained charge who has been in the first two in the past couple of races. Alnilam has also clocked up a couple of solid wins to stake his claims too.

Lulamba could be a superstar and the next mission is to win the Betfair Henry VIII Novices' Chase on Saturday. This is a big race at Sandown Park, with the four-year-old looking mightily impressive at Exeter last month. On that occasion, the Nicky Henderson-trained charge was able to score by ten lengths when fending off four other runners.

That was in a Beginners Chase over two miles, one and a half furlongs. Previously to this, there was a solid success at Punchestown in the Ballymore Champion Four Year Old Hurdle, with that being a Grade One encounter where the 11/10 favourite was able to oblige. The horse was previously successful when finishing runner-up in the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Festival.

Lump Sum runs for Sam Thomas and is an older adversary. There was a success at Uttoxeter at the end of October, with that coming by a massive sixteen lengths. On good to soft ground, there was plenty to like about a performance in a Beginners Chase, with that coming after a disappointing effort at Sandown Park.

Be Aware is a six-year-old who was able to finish second in a competitive race at Cheltenham. That happened in mid-November in the Paddy Power Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices' Chase, with the horse having previously claimed the spoils at Stratford at the end of October. The horse finished eighth as the 3/1 favourite in the Coral Cup.

JPR One unseated his rider at Cheltenham last month, with the 6/5 favourite in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices’ Stakes having been three lengths ahead when stumbling. Perhaps we’ll see the horse return to the winners’ enclosure when it comes to the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase, with the runner having performed well at Aintree last spring.

Colonel Harry has been landing wins on a regular basis during his career, with the latest victory coming at Chepstow. That was only against two other runners, with a second-placed finish taking place at Kelso. The horse had previously obliged as strong favourite when scoring at Newcastle in a Novices’ Hurdle encounter.

Iceo raced against JPR One as the 4/6 favourite in a handicap chase at Newton Abbot, although perhaps that was an off day for a horse that had previously performed well. The runner had previously beaten two other opponents in early October, with the most striking victory coming in the Imperial Cup at Sandown back in March.

Unexpected Party was fifth out of fourteen runners when lining up at Cheltenham Racecourse. It was a solid showing in the Paddy Power Gold Cup over two miles and four furlongs, with this encounter taking place on soft ground. The horse was previously victorious at Chepstow over two miles, three and a half furlongs.
