Charlie Hall Chase Betting Odds

The 2025 Charlie Hall Chase is a long-distance encounter over three miles, with Protektorat returning to the track after a previous successful season. Dan Skelton trains a ten-year-old with the highest official rating, with Pic d’Orhy having notched a couple of wins in a previous season. Paul Nicholls trains a horse who looks like a good each-way bet.

Hewick was successful on a previous outing and could go well again, with this being another ten-year-old who should be fresh and raring to go. Djelo runs for Venetia Williams and is marginally shorter than The Real Whacker who has racked up some notable wins over the years. Gordon Elliott has a couple of runners including Stellar Story.

2025 Charlie Hall Chase Betting Tips

Protektorat is a horse capable of serving up big performances. The ten-year-old returns to the track for what might be his final season and will bid to win the Charlie Hall Chase. The latest effort was a runner-up spot at Aintree in the Melling Chase. On that occasion, it was no disgrace to finish second behind Jonbon over two miles and four furlongs.

In the weeks previously to this race, there was a fourth-placed finish in a field of nine runners at the Cheltenham Festival. The horse was able to perform well in the Ryanair Chase over two miles, four and a half furlongs. It will be interesting to see how he is able to fare over a longer distance and perhaps stamina might be a strong card.

Pic D’orhy was in the winners’ enclosure on a couple of occasions last term. The horse was pulled up at Sandown Park back in April although this was preceded by wins at November and January. There was a victory in the 1965 Chase and that came before an Ascot Chase success over two miles and five furlongs.

Hewick was able to triumph in a previous showing and that victory came at Thurles. The horse definitely has the staying power to oblige considering that there was a credible eighth-placed finish in the Aintree Grand National. That was preceded by a success in a hurdle race at Thurles over two miles and six furlongs.

2024 Charlie Hall Chase Tips

We’ve seen some classic Charlie Hall Chase races in the past and this one at Wetherby could be another great race. Bravemansgame is the star performer on paper, with Paul Nicholls saddling a horse who was disappointing in his previous showing at Aintree when finishing second last in the William Hill Bowl Chase.

Previously to this, it was nineteen lengths separating him from eventual Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs, although the runner has a weight advantage when set against some of the other quality performers in the race. Carrying 11-4 could mean he’s able to finish ahead of the likes of Gerri Colombe and Grey Dawning.

The former is clearly on an upward trajectory, with the eight-year-old making a seasonal debut after impressing during the previous campaign. Gordon Elliott will hope for more from a runner who was thrilling at Aintree to win that particular race before registering a second-placed finish in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Grey Dawning was also a smart performer last term and there were several successes along the way. The latest effort saw the horse finish third out of five runners in the Manifesto Novices’ Chase, although that came after a victory in the Turners Novices’ Chase over two miles and four furlongs, with plenty of each-way money likely to come here.

2023 Charlie Hall Chase Tips

Bravemansgame secured a victory in the 2022 Charlie Hall Chase last year, with the horse beating four other rivals to claim this Grade 2 encounter. Paul Nicholls will now hope he can return to Wetherby Racecourse to secure the spoils, with the horse also winning the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day at Kempton Racecourse.

There was plenty to like about a success over three miles considering that the horse won by a massive fourteen lengths, with the runner then finishing second in the Cheltenham Gold Cup last March. Losing to favourite Galopin Des Champs was no disgrace and the horse finished last season by finishing third in the Punchestown Gold Cup.

Ahoy Senor will be looking to usurp his rival on a seasonal reappearance. Second place behind Shishkin in the Aintree Bowl Chase was a fine performance last April although the concern was the jumping to the right which cost the horse a potential win. Previously to this, the runner had fallen in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Pic D’Orhy has a stack of impressive form from last season and the eight-year-old was able to score a victory at Aintree last season at the Grand National meeting. In the Marsh Chase, we saw the runner oblige by over four lengths, putting favourite Fakir D’oudairies into second place and this could be a strong each-way selection for the race.

This is a historic race, with the first Charlie Hall Chase taking place in 1969, with horses aged five or older able to enter and compete for a winner’s purse which is greater than £50,000. It’s a Grade 2 event and there have been some notable winners on the Wetherby Racecard over the past few years.

There have been six different horses that have won the Charlie Hall Chase on more than one occasion. Wayward Lad was able to secure a double in 1983 and 1985, with Celtic Shot landing the spoils in consecutive years of 1990 and 1991. Two years later, Barton Bank was in the winners’ enclosure and then scored in 1995 in the same race.

One Man was a legendary grey horse that was able to secure a win in 1996 before returning to Wetherby and delivering the goods in 1997. Two years down the line, See More Business was on target in 1999 and there was a triumph in the millennium year further down the line.

Ollie Magern won the 2003 and 2005 Charlie Hall Chase, with Fusil Raffles claiming the spoils in 2021. This was the first time a six-year-old had won since Bristol De Mai scored in 2017.
