Jonbon could be a great bet to land the spoils in the 2025 Tingle Creek Chase. It remains to be seen whether wind surgery will prove beneficial to a runner who has previously won the past two renewals of this race. It was an eight-length success in this race twelve months ago and this came before another convincing win in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot.

In the Queen Mother Champion Chase, Jonbon had no answer to Marine Nationale’s soaraway success, with that coming before an Aintree win against three other runners. The last performance of the season came at Sandown where he was beaten as the 8/15 favourite. Il Etait Temps was simply too good on that occasion.

It remains to be seen whether any horse is good enough to beat the Nicky Henderson-trained charge. L’Eau du Sud runs for Dan Skelton and claimed successive wins at Cheltenham, Sandown and Warwick last term. The horse struggled to make an impact in the Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, with the runner third in the Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree.

Only By Night can’t be readily ignored. The horse was able to perform well at Naas over two miles recently, with Gavin Cromwell saddling a runner who previously ran well at Punchestown in May. There was no disgrace in being beaten into second in the Barberstown Castle Novice Chase and that came after finishing second in the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham.

2024 Betfair Tingle Creek Chase Tips

Jonbon has been a star performer this season, with the horse landing a comfortable victory at Cheltenham in mid-November. This came after a success at Sandown back in April where the horse was able to fend off the challenge of El Fabiolo to win the bet365 Celebration Chase. There was also plenty to like about the horse’s performance in the Melling Chase over two miles and four furlongs.

Found A Fifty was a successive winner this season, with Gordon Elliott training a seven-year-old having achieved back to back victories this term. The latest success came recently at Navan where the horse was able to edge Solness by a neck, while this came after a triumph at Down Royal in early November.

Edwardstone is an older adversary who might have seen better days, although the ten-year-old still has the potential to go well for trainer Alan King. There was only two lengths separating him and Jonbon in that recent Cheltenham encounter, with that coming after finishing third in the bet365 Celebration Chase.

JPR One has won two of his most recent three encounters, with the Joe Tizzard-trained seven-year-old certainly capable of running into the places here. The latest success came in the Haldon Gold Cup Handicap Chase, with a wind surgery operation having put the horse on a better footing after previously finishing seventh in the Arkle Challenge Trophy.

2023 Tingle Creek Chase Tips

Jonbon is never easily beaten and many punters will think he has too much quality for the field in the Tingle Creek Chase. Sent off as the 4/9 favourite in the recent Shloer Chase over two miles, there was a facile victory by nine and a half lengths, with the horse having claimed victories at Aintree and Sandown Park at the back end of last season.

This hat-trick of wins came after the horse was second to El Fabiolo in the Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase, although the runner still needs to complete a clean round of jumping and that is always the danger with backing a strong favourite. Captain Guinness could be ready to step into the fray and the eight-year-old was successful last time out.

Interestingly, there was less than four lengths that separated Captain Guinness and Jonbon when the horses clashed in the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown Park, with the former having previously acquitted himself well in the Queen Mother Champion Chase despite finishing ten lengths behind Energumene.

Edwardstone is trained by Alan King and the horse has nearly ten lengths to find on the market leader when it comes to this race, with the pair having clashed in the Shloer Chase. Perhaps Boothill could run into a place and there have been back to back successes at Ascot although this race really represents a step up in class for this charge.

2022 Tingle Creek Chase Tips

Greaneteen has come a long way since finishing second to Shishkin last Christmas. While the Paul Nicholls-trained charge proved underwhelming when finishing dead last in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase at Leopardstown, there have since been a couple of notable victories including the bet365 Celebration Chase.

The twelve-length win in this Grade 1 encounter saw Harry Cobden ride the horse well clear of Sceau Royal, with Nube Negra also in that race. There was also a win in the Betway Haldon Gold Cup where Greaneteen was able to win by seven lengths at Exeter. That explains why he’s trading as favourite in the Tingle Creek betting odds.

Shishkin is going to be a popular bet for punters who have previously won money backing him to win various races. Before being pulled up in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the eight-year-old had triumphed in ten consecutive races. Indeed, Shishkin was warm favourite at the Festival after winning the Clarence House Chase.

Edwardstone is also entered for the Tingle Creek Chase and he could be a popular each-way betting selection. Alan King could have a potential superstar on his hands and this was a horse that won the Arkle, with the horse then beaten in the Maghull Novices’ Chase. Ferny Hollow has had a long lay-off since Boxing Day but should be respected on previous form.

Shishkin Bidding to Win Tingle and Queen Mother Double

The winner of the Tingle Creek Chase usually goes on to have strong claims when it comes to the Queen Mother Champion Chase, with Shishkin having won eight successive races and that is why Nicky Henderson’s horse is trading at odds-on to win this particular race. It was the most routine of victories when the runner triumphed in the 2021 Arkle Chase.

On that occasion, Shishkin won by twelve lengths over two miles on soft ground, with the horse one of the shortest-priced favourites at 4/9 and there was another triumph in the Doom Bar Maghull Novices’ Chase at Aintree Racecourse. However, some will point out the fact that this is a high-octane race over big obstacles at speed where falling is always a possibility.

Chacun Pour Soi Could Be a Viable Tingle Creek Contender

Willie Mullins regularly has a leading contender for the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown, with the nine-year-old having been sent off as the 8/13 favourite to win the 2021 Queen Mother Chase, although the market leader found little when coming up the hill at the Cheltenham Festival, with third place the finishing position on that occasion.

The horse then travelled to the Punchestown Festival in late April where a victory was scored at betting odds of 6/5 and perhaps Chacun Pour Soi will be better suited to the flatter track of Sandown than the undulating course of Cheltenham. The odds suggest that he can push Shishkin close in this encounter.

Nube Negra and Greaneteen Market Leaders for Tingle Creek

There are lots of lively contenders for the Tingle Creek Chase, with Nube Negra having beaten the mighty Altior in the Desert Orchid Chase just under a year ago, while the Dan Skelton-trained horse came within a whisker of winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase before an underwhelming performance in the Irish Champion Chase.

Greaneteen was the winner of the bet365 Celebration Chase at the end of April, with Bryony Frost steering the horse to victory ahead of 9/4 favourite Altior, with the seven-year-old underwhelming in the Haldon Gold Cup although the bookies are expecting a better showing here.

Can Altior Regain His Tingle Creek Crown?

Altior will definitely go down as a true horse racing legend, with the Nicky Henderson charge having already won this race in 2018 and his career to date is littered with notable victories including the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle win in 2016, the Queen Mother Champion Chase in 2017 and then a double in the Queen Mother in 2018 and 2019.

The 2019/20 season didn’t quite work out the way that Henderson intended and the ten-year-old had his colours lowered when being beaten by Cyrname at Newbury before returning to the same track and claiming a win, although injury prevented Altior from lining up in the Champion Chase.

It could now be the case that the horse’s next engagement is in the 2020 Tingle Creek meeting and the runner is trading at around 7/2 to win with most bookie in the antepost racing market, with Altior still capable of fireworks providing that he’s completely fit after recent setbacks.

Defi Du Seuil Bidding for a Two-Timer in the Tingle

Defi Du Seuil was the red hot favourite to win the 2020 Queen Mother Champion Chase following the news that Chacun Pour Soi and Altior would not be lining up, although the Philip Hobbs-trained horse produced a distinctly underwhelming performance despite being sent off as the 2/5 favourite.

The seven-year-old ended up finishing fourth in the race, although that performance was preceded by some spectacular displays and that included the victory in the 2019 Tingle Creek Chase when the horse fended off the talented Un De Sceaux to win at odds of 2/1.

Barry Geraghty then rode him to another Grade 1 triumph in the Clarence House Chase when beating the same opponent and perhaps we can see more progression from a younger horse this time around.

The History of the Tingle Creek Chase

The Tingle Creek Chase has become one of the highlights of the National Hunt racing calendar, with the race having been inaugurated in 1979 and the event is named after a horse called Tingle Creek who was a popular performer during the 1970’s.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has had an amazing ten victories in this race, with Flagship Uberalles (1999), Cenkos (2002), Kauto Star (2005, 2006), Twist Magic (2007, 2009), Master Minded (2008, 2010), Dodging Bullets (2014) and Politologue (2017) scoring for a handler who could see the latter competing in the 2020 renewal.

Moscow Flyer is the only ten-year-old who has managed to win the Tingle Creek and that came in 2004, a year after the horse first won the race. In 2005 and 2006, it was the turn of Kauto Star to enjoy success and there have regularly been multiple winners of a race which is often the benchmark of the horses that will perform well in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
