Day One

There’s a treat for racing fans when the 2025 Tingle Creek Festival comes around. Day One will feature six races, with the first of these taking place at 12.35pm with a juvenile hurdle race. This is followed by a handicap chase before we move into Grade Two territory. The Winter Novices’ Hurdle is a two mile four furlong encounter which is always an attractive betting race.

There have been some notable recent winners of this encounter, including Lossiemouth in 2021. That success has since been followed by Henri The Second, Deafening Silence and Bill Joyce, with the race requiring horses to have quick jumping ability and the prospect of staying the pace over a considerable distance.

We also have the Esher Novices’ Chase, with this encounter also having Grade 2 status. This is another stamina-sapping encounter, with that coming before a three-mile chase and we finish off the day’s proceedings with a two-mile handicap hurdle. This is an opportunity to pick out the best weighted horse and potentially benefit from extra place terms.

Day Two

The Betfair Tingle Creek Chase takes centre stage on Day Two of the Festival, with this race having Grade One status. Run over two miles, the best chasers in the land compete over the big obstacles and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Jonbon has been a successive winner in 2023 and 2024. The Nicky Henderson-trained charge could well return to the track in 2025, having run well since that last success. A year ago, Nico de Boinville rode the charge to an eight-length success and that was followed by another sizeable triumph at Ascot in January.

There was everything to like about a success in the Clarence House Chase, although the horse has subsequently been beatable. The horse was chinned as the odds-on favourite in the Queen Mother Champion Chase when Marine Nationale was able to score by eighteen lengths. There was a win at Aintree although there’s been a recent defeat at Sandown.

Il Etait Temps was the victor in the bet365 Celebration Chase and the seven-year-old could be sent off as favourite for this Sandown showdown. There was a five and a half length win over Jonbon and Willie Mullins will hope that the horse can now return to the same track and once again illustrate that he’s the king of the two-milers.

Despite only finishing third in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival, there have been big strides made since then. The runner was able to score in the Close Brothers Manifesto Novices’ Chase, with that being a nine length success at Aintree racecourse. Then came another success at Punchestown before the more recent victory.

The Tingle Creek Chase is just one of several races on Day Two, with the action starting at 12.08pm when the Claremont Novices’ Hurdle takes place. There is then a mares’ handicap hurdle over two miles and four furlongs. The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle is then over two miles seven furlongs.

The fourth race on Day Two also has Grade One status. The Henry VIII Novices’ Chase takes place over two miles and is always a competitive encounter. L’Eau Du Sud could return to the track where he was successful in 2024. Dan Skelton’s charge could only finish third in the final race of last season in the Maghull Novices’ Chase but could be the one to beat here.
