Golden Eagle Betting Odds

The 2024 Golden Eagle is one of the biggest horse races in Australia, with Rosehill Racecourse hosting a race that always attracts high-level entries. This is currently the fourth-richest race in the world, with Kolding, Colette, I’m Thunderstruck, I Wish I Win and Obamburumai having previously landed the spoils in this race.

Ascoli Piceno is trading as the favourite, with the Japanese raider having lit up the stage on more than one occasion this season. Two runner-up positions at Hanshin and Tokyo have been followed by a victory at Nakayama, with Lazzat and Joliestar looking backable from an each-way perspective and they could also be in the mix.

2024 Golden Eagle Tips

Ascoli Piceno is set to go off as favourite for the 2024 Golden Eagle, with the horse having landed an impressive victory at Nakayama. Sent off as the 1/2 favourite in the Keisei Hai Autumn Handicap, the three-year-old was able to oblige with a smart win and that came after some stellar performances at Hanshin and Tokyo.

In the former race, the Yoichi Kuroiwa-trained runner was only beaten by one other runner in the NHK Mile Cup, while it was also a close-run thing in the Oka Sho, with this being the Japanese 1,000 Guineas. However, there could be a threat offered in this race by Lazzat and Joliestar, with both horses trading at single figure prices.

Lazzat was able to score at Deauville last time out, with the three-year-old able to land a victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest where the horse was able to achieve a three length victory over six-and-a-half furlongs, with a summer success at Longchamp coming over seven furlongs and it’s feasible that the same horse will run into a place.

Chris Waller trains Joliestar, with the four-year-old finishing seventh out of eleven horses at Randwick in October, with this coming after a solid performance at Rosehill. The runner was able to finish third out of seven horses in the Sheraco Stakes, although some will find it hard to trust the runner on the basis that he was a short-priced favourite on that occasion.

2022 Golden Eagle Tips

Light Infantry is now being primed for the 2022 Golden Eagle race after some superlative performances in France. The David Simcock-trained runner was sent off as one of the outsiders when it came to the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jacques le Marois, although he outran his betting odds to finish second behind Inspiral and well ahead of race favourite Coroebus.

That had come after another runner-up performance in the Haras d'Etreham Prix Jean Prat over seven furlongs on good to soft ground. The high level of performance at Deauville came after a fairly modest outing at Newmarket last summer where the horse finished ninth out of fifteen horses in the 2,000 Guineas race although further improvement has been found.

Hinged is trained by crack Australian trainer Chris Waller, with the four-year-old having had plenty of experience when racing at tracks Down Under. Most recently at Randwick, the horse finished third in the Epsom TAB over one mile on soft ground, having previously finished in the same placing when running behind the impressive Anamoe and also New Zealand raider Ice Bath.

Anamoe is an interesting price considering he’s available at bigger odds, with the Godolphin horse having won three consecutive races and it looks a great price if the runner lines up at Rosehill Racecourse. Most recently at Caulfield Racecourse, we saw the 23/20 favourite land the spoils over one mile and two furlongs, with that coming after back-to-back successes at Randwick.

Bet On Golden Eagle at Rosehill Racecourse

The Australian race at Rosehill Racecourse is one of the world’s richest races on turf and comes third only behind The Everest at Randwick and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp racecourse. It means that the Golden Eagle race attracts all star talents around the world and the qualifying requirements are strict.

Alligator Blood Hot Favourite to Win Golden Eagle

As you might expect, the 2020 renewal of the Golden Eagle is going to be highly competitive, with the race scheduled to take place on 31 October 2020 and it’s Alligator Blood who currently heads the betting market, with the Australian horse trading at around the 5/1 mark with bet365.

It’s currently hard to make head or tail of the current form considering that a lot of Australian horses haven’t been seen on a racecard for the past few months due to COVID-19, although Alligator Blood is clearly a talented three-year-old who has a string of wins to his name over the past twelve months.

The most recent victory occurred in the Kennedy Australian Guineas where the David Vandyke-trained horse obliged as the 17/10 favourite although it should be noted that this victory occurred on 29 February 2020 and that’s a long time to discover where the horse is still as good as he was.

What was slightly worrying for Alligator Blood-backers was that the horse messed up his lines in the more recent All-Star Mile where the runner finished well down the pecking order although connections are sure to have him firing for this big race.

Catalyst is a New Zealand horse who is very lightly-raced for a four-year-old although the noises coming from the stable is that the Clayton Chipperfield runner could end up performing better than his previous outings suggested. He finished sixth behind Alligator Blood at Flemington and could be open to further improvement.

The History of the Golden Eagle

As mentioned, this is a very modern horse race which only took place for the first time in 2019 so the Australian race card is very much in its infancy as far as this race is concerned. The inaugural Golden Eagle race, which runs at Rosehill Racecourse, was won by a horse called Kolding, with the Chris Waller-trained charge winning the Epsom Handicap before moving on to landing the huge prize in the Golden Eagle.
