Preakness Stakes Betting Odds

Muth is the warm favourite to land a victory in the Preakness Stakes this month, with the Bob Baffert-trained runner having won four times during his career including the last two races. The bookmakers think this runner is the most likely to win, although Mystik Dan is trading at a short price and is capable of a big race.

Catching Freedom, Imagination and Tuscan Gold are next in the betting for the Preakness, with several horses trading at single figure betting odds. There is each-way betting available for this Pimlico showdown and it’s worth comparing the latest racing prices in order to get the best value.

2024 Preakness Stakes Tips

Muth has enjoyed a successful career to date, with the three-year-old having been installed as the favourite to win the Preakness Stakes on Saturday 18 May. The latest success came at Oaklawn Park where the horse was able to oblige in the Arkansas Derby over one mile and one furlong.

The previous success for the horse came in the San Vincente Stakes, with the horse claiming a victory as the 2/5 favourite over seven furlongs, with this coming after finishing second place in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile back in November. There was also a victory at Santa Anita in the Grade One Pharaoh Stakes.

Mystik Dan could be a lively contender and there was a victory at Churchill Downs last time out, with the three-year-old having beaten nineteen other contenders in the Kentucky Derby in early May, meaning that the horse is on course to land the Triple Crown this season. Previously to this was a third-placed finish behind Muth at Oaklawn Park.

Catching Freedom was fourth in the Kentucky Derby when sent off at odds of 17/2, with Brad H Cox training a runner who was able to win the Louisiana Derby over one mile, one and a half furlongs. There was previously a third-placed finish in the Risen Star Stakes, with the betting odds suggesting he has a lively chance.

2023 Preakness Stakes Tips

Can anyone stop Mage from winning the 2023 Preakness Stakes? The horse was the winner of the Kentucky Derby earlier this month and will now bid to land another leg of the Triple Crown, with Gustavo Delgado’s charge having claimed a one length win against Two Phil’s on 6 May, with Javier Castellano having steered the charge to success and the same horse is bidding for another big win.

Mage also ran well in the recent Florida Derby and finished second to odds-on favourite Forte and the rapid progress that was made in that race means we shouldn’t have been surprised that there was a Kentucky Derby win. First Mission runs for trainer Brad H Cox and there have been successive wins for the three-year-old recently.

In the Lexington Stakes, Luis Saez was able to steer the horse to a half length win against Arabian Lion and Disarm, with that coming after a win in the Maiden Special Weight where the odds-on chance enjoyed a winning distance of nearly seven lengths, with the bookmakers respecting the chances of the second favourite.

National Treasure goes for the respected trainer Bob Baffert and it was a fourth-placed finish in the Santa Anita Derby last time out, with the horse having flattered to deceive in the previous Sham Stakes. More tellingly was a third-placed finish behind Forte in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the distance should suit this runner.

2022 Preakness Stakes Betting Tips

Epicenter has been shortening when it comes to the 2022 Preakness Stakes betting, with Steven Asmussen’s three-year-old having been impressive in his short career to date. The horse was sent off as the 41/10 favourite in the 2022 Kentucky Derby and narrowly fell short for punters on that occasion.

Massive outsider Rich Strike was able to oblige by less than a length at betting odds of 81/1 on that occasion, with Joel Rosario likely to be on board and the jockey should give this horse another big ride and the runner didn’t do a great deal wrong when finishing runner-up at Churchill Downs.

Previously to this outing, there was a victory in the Louisiana Derby when obliging at betting odds of even money, with the horse winning over one mile, one-and-a-half furlongs, while there was a 7/2 victory in the Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds on 19 February.

Secret Oath has plenty to recommend him, with D Wayne Lukas seeing this horse win the Kentucky Oaks on 6 May 2022, with a two-length victory over race favourite Nest meaning there is plenty to recommend this runner and it would be a remarkable training performance if the Preakness was added to the roster.

Early Voting has run just three times and all of those outings have been at Aqueduct Racecourse, with the three-year-old most recently having finished second in the Wood Memorial Stakes. More improvement is needed to topple the front two in the betting market.

The History of the Preakness Stakes

The Preakness is actually older than the Kentucky Derby by a couple of years, with Pimlico introducing a new stakes race for three-year-olds in 1873 and it was the first ever spring meet that took place at this Race Course.

A horse called Survivor was the first ever winner of the race and the John Chamberlain-trained charge romped home by ten lengths, with this being the record winning distance for a long time until Smarty Jones produced an outstanding performance in 2004 and it was a record 11.5 length triumph.

Legendary horse Secretariat is the record holder in the Preakness Stakes after recording a time of 1 minute 53 seconds in 1973.The runner landed the Triple Crown that year and became the ninth horse to achieve this feat, with many regarding this as the best to have ever run.

Medina Spirit Bidding to Win 2021 Preakness Stakes

The big question is whether race favourite Medina Spirit will get the opportunity to line up in the 2021 Preakness Stakes, with the horse having won the Kentucky Derby although a dark cloud sits over him and legendary trainer Bob Baffert considering the runner subsequently failed a drugs test.

Medina Spirit is still scheduled to run in the 2021 Preakness and the betting odds have him as favourite, with Baffert convinced that there has been wrongdoing over the failed test, although it remains to be seen whether the horse can take his chances in a bid to become the latest Triple Crown winner.

Who Are the Other 2021 Preakness Stakes Favourites?

Baffert has another lively runner in the Preakness Stakes betting, with Concert Tour a virtual certainty to run and he was most recently seen in action when competing in the Arkansas Derby where the horse finished a disappointing third despite being sent off as the 30/100 favourite for the race.

Previously to this, the Gary & Mary West horse had landed back to back successes at Santa Anita and then won the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park, although that surprising prep run defeat has seen his Preakness odds on the drift.

As for Midnight Bourbon, the Steven Asmussen-trained three-year-old ran well to finish sixth in the Kentucky Derby and will hope to make up the eight lengths deficit when it comes to this latest Triple Crown event.
