Stayers Handicap Hurdle Betting Odds

We’re intrigued to see how the betting unfolds in the Betfair Stayers' Handicap Hurdle, with Emma Lavelle training a runner who was successful last time out. The horse has solid credentials although Impose Toi has also been in good form recently and Nicky Henderson will feel confident that his horse can stay the course.

This looks like a quality heat from an each-way betting point of view, with One Big Bang running for James Owen. The seven-year-old produced a strong effort last time out, with Potters Charm likely to be near the bottom of the weights. The fall in the previous appearance was cause for concern but the horse has quality pedigree.

2025 Betfair Stayers' Handicap Hurdle Betting Tips

Ma Shantou is trading at a significantly shorter price than any other horse in the Betfair Stayers' Handicap Hurdle. The six-year-old has posted some significant victories and the latest effort came at Cheltenham. Sent off as the 18/5 favourite in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle, there was a solid three length success over three miles.

This came after finishing seventh in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, with the horse performing well over three miles at a big price. However, some might prefer the claims of Impose Toi who has looked good this term. There was a recent November success at Aintree where the 5/2 favourite won over three miles.

This came after a second-placed effort at Punchestown in a handicap hurdle, with that coming after finishing fourth out of twenty at Aintree. There was also plenty to like about a runner-up spot in the Coral Cup, although One Big Bang is going to provide James Owen with a lively chance and staying shouldn’t be a problem for this horse.

Potters Charm is another one to consider. The six-year-old runs for the Twiston-Davies stable and was travelling well when falling on his seasonal debut. Coming down at Wetherby at the beginning of November was far from ideal, although the horse previously fared well in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

2024 Betfair Stayers' Handicap Hurdle Tips

Doyen Quest looks favourably weighted for the Betfair Stayers' Handicap Hurdle, with the six-year-old having obliged with a victory at Cheltenham as recently as 16 November. Sent off as the 5/4 favourite for a three-mile encounter, the Dan Skelton-trained runner was able to secure a five-length win after previously running well at Chepstow when finishing second.

If a horse is to beat the favourite, perhaps it will be Catch Him Derry, with the runner having won his previous two outings. Last time out, the charge took really well to heavy going at Newton Abbot to oblige over two miles, five and a half furlongs. Previously to this, the horse was able to finish first in a handicap hurdle over three miles, half a furlong.

Kamsinas is a seven-year-old who has been backed to win and Fergal O’Brien trains a runner who was able to succeed at Aintree as an 8/1 shot. However, it’s worth noting that the horse finished significantly behind Doyen Quest at Cheltenham in April, with lots of improvement to be found if the horse is to be successful here.

Shoot First was fifth out of ten runners at Galway last time out after previously winning at Cheltenham when obliging in the in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle. However, perhaps Kerryhill could be a better each-way shout, with the runner having won at Doncaster back in January and that was a really convincing win.

2023 Stayers Handicap Hurdle Tips

Crambo might not have the highest rating in the field for the Betfair Exchange Stayers' Handicap Hurdle, although Fergal O’Brien’s charge is a talented six-year-old who was successful a month ago when last running. Sent off as the 11/8 favourite in the Jewson Handicap Hurdle, there was a smart win over two miles and four furlongs.

Previously to this, the horse ran really well in the Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle when finishing seventh out of fourteen runners at odds of 20/1, with a victory at Sandown over two miles and four furlongs preceding this. That was on heavy ground, with Bold Endeavour also worthy of consideration at odds of around the 8/1 mark.

The horse has finished runner-up in his past two encounters, with the seven-year-old having finished in the Long Distance Handicap Hurdle at Haydock Park back in May. That was over three miles, half a furlong, while this came after finishing runner-up in the Kingston Stud Handicap Hurdle over two miles, four and a half furlongs.

Botox Has is a seven-year-old who has plenty of promise, with this horse having won over three miles last time out. Achieving a victory by a distance of one length, the horse performed well on soft ground and might encounter similar sort of going here. Angels Breath is another that has to be respected and there was a second placed finish in a handicap hurdle at the end of October.

Stayers' Handicap Hurdle 2020 Tips

The Stayers’ Handicap will be on the same Haydock racecard as the Betfair Chase and we’re looking forward to seeing some of the best three-mile hurdlers battle it out on a relatively flat track for a bid to claim the Stayers’ Hurdle which is scheduled to take place at Cheltenham Festival later in the season.

Imperial Alcazar and Tea Clipper Head the Betting

Imperial Alcazar has yet to be seen at a racecourse this season although the Fergal O’Brien-trained horse has previously served up some impressive performances, most notably when winning at Leicester on 29 January, with that being a Novices’ Hurdle victory over the distance of two miles and four furlongs on heavy ground.

Previously to this, jockey Paddy Brennan had guided the horse to second place in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle on 1 January and we should expect a spirited showing from a horse who has previously shown bags of stamina when appearing at various racecourses.

Tea Clipper is also near the head of the betting market for the Stayers’ and Tom Lacey could have a seriously talented five-year-old considering that he showed an impressive turn of foot to win the Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow, with the horse coming back from a sizeable break to win.

However, you can make a case for several of the horses in the field and this might be all about having an each-way bet, with a selection such as Collooney potentially not too far away after the JP McManus-owned charge recently claimed a victory at Fontwell on his seasonal reappearance to the course.

Honest Vic is another horse who won on his seasonal reappearance and deserves his place among the favourites, with the Henry Daly-trained horse deserving lots of respect for winning the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle on 24 October and beating plenty of talented horses in the process.

The History of the Haydock Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle

This is not a race with a huge history, having been introduced in 2005 as part of the Betfair Chase day and it has continued to be a prominent race on the card, with this being a Grade 3 encounter which attracts plenty of stellar talent looking to land some prize money for connections.

Paisley Park was a notable winner of the race in 2018 before the Emma Lavelle-trained charge went on to win the 2019 Stayers’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, while Stoney Mountain claimed victory in 2019 and this is a race that has had Grade 3 status since 2011.
