In the end, it was a fifth-placed finish after previously finishing third out of eighteen runners in another York handicap at big odds of 18/1.

Perhaps it’s worth swerving the front two in the market and On The River has plenty to recommend him. Harriet Bethell has saddled the horse to three successive victories, with the first of these coming over a mile at Pontefract before landing a handicap win at Beverley. A victory at Nottingham kept the winning run going.

Sir Winston won for the first time in his previous clash and that was a victory at Brighton at the end of May. Over seven furlongs on firm ground, there was everything to like about this performance after previously finishing second on the all-weather at Lingfield Park. It seems that he will be ridden from the rear and Roger Varian saddles this charge.
