It was a pretty impressive over six furlongs at Moonee Valley although there is a concern that the horse has not won on any of his previous five appearances at a race track, with the horse finishing a credible fourth in the big money Everest race and perhaps he might find it easier against more facile opposition.

Trekking looks sure to make an impact in this race and was second to Pippie in the Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes, with one wondering if there will be at least one other horse too good in this race.

Who Are the Biggest Dangers to Trekking?

Indian Pacific has to be respected and the horse ran gamely to record his sixth victory in eight starts when succeeding in the Crawford Stakes, while there could be more to come from the Parnham-trained runner who looks to be a progressive sort.

Valour Road also has to be respected and his victory in the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes looks to be a good marker for this particular race, while Elite Street and Stageman are other horses that can go well.

The History of the Winterbottom Stakes

It’s fair to say that this race has grown in prestige since its inauguration in 1952 and has now become the biggest spring encounter in Australian horse racing. This is especially the case in Western Australia where it takes place on the middle weekend of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival, with this taking place the week after the Railway Stakes and the WA Guineas.

The prize money has been stationed at A$1,000,000 since 2015 and it was shortened to 1200 metres since 1994, with horses from all over Australia and further afield coming to challenge for this prestigious encounter.
