At a slightly bigger price, we have a clutch of horses including Boombawn and Master Chewy. Both runners have solid credentials and will command each-way money.

Hitman was able to hit the frame on a number of occasions last term and the Paul Nicholls-trained nine-year-old is worthy of consideration. Minella Drama is an older adversary who had mixed form last season, with Colonel Harry returning to the track after nearly a year away from the course.

2025 Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase Betting Tips

Imperial Saint is the marginal favourite when it comes to the Old Roan Handicap Chase. Philip Hobbs and Johnson White train a runner who was last seen finishing second out of twelve horses at Aintree. It was a solid performance in the William Hill Handicap Chase and the runner clearly has staying power over three miles and a furlong.

Boombawn runs for Dan Skelton and can’t be discounted based on efforts thus far. There was a fifth-placed finish in the bet365 Oaksey Chase over two miles, six and a half furlongs. That came after landing a credible fourth in the Manifesto Novices’ Chase over two miles and four furlongs at Aintree. Sent off at 22/1, it was a great effort.

Master Chewy is available at a similar price and the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained runner was sixth out of seven runners in the bet365 Celebration Chase at Sandown Park. This was a Grade 1 effort over one mile, seven and a half furlongs, with the 22/1 shot finishing second last although this was a highly competitive effort.

Hitman wasn’t able to make a huge impression at Sandown when finishing seventh out of nine horses last time out. There was a struggle over nearly three miles which raises a question as to whether the horse has the stamina for the job. Minella Drama is a ten-year-old who is also capable of making an impact.

2024 Old Roan Chase Tips

Protektorat returns to the track this weekend and there’s every chance that the nine-year-old can score in this encounter. The horse was last seen running at Aintree back in April, with the Dan Skelton-trained charge missing out to favourite Jonbon although that came after an impressive victory in the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Stage Star has been afforded plenty of respect, with the eight-year-old more than capable of landing the spoils here. This horse was fifth out of eleven horses in the Ryanair Chase although he did win the Paddy Power Gold Cup in November 2023, with the runner likely to be a popular selection to secure a victory.

Minella Drama is a nine-year-old with serious claims and Donald McCain trains a runner who has a weight advantage and there has been money for this runner. The horse was pulled up at Aintree last time out and that came after finishing second at Kelso although it’s been quite some time since there was a victory.

Ahoy Senor has the potential to go well for Lucinda Russell, with the horse landing second place in the William Hill Bowl Chase at Aintree back in the spring. He was only half a length behind Gerri Colombe, with the horse having eighteen lengths to find on Protektorat after a below-par run in the Ryanair Chase.

Farmer Jack was the first winner of the Old Roan Chase when triumphing in 2004, with the eight-year-old trained by Philip Hobbs and the same trainer was able to oblige ten years later when winning the same race by saddling Wishfull Thinking.

In the past three runnings of the Old Roan Chase, we have seen two nine-year-olds land a victory. In 2022, Riders Onthestorm was able to land the spoils, with the Richard Hobson-trained runner carrying a low weight of 10-06 and that was the second-lowest weighted winner in the history of the race.

In 2021, Dan Skelton triumphed with Allmankind and it was a top training performance considering that the horse was carrying 11-10, with Nuts Well the champion in 2020 and Forest Bihan was on target in 2019 when the Brian Ellison-trained runner was well down the racecard.
