Observer can do no wrong coming into the Rosehill Guineas. The three-year-old was the winner of the Victoria Derby at Flemington in early November when obliging as the 29/20 favourite. The horse then returned to the track to claim a 3/1 success in the Autumn Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse where eleven other runners were beaten in a Group 2 clash.

The latest effort was another win at Flemington where the Australian Guineas was bagged thanks to a half-length success for the odds-on favourite. It's hard to crab his form although the Australian racing betting sites think Autumn Boy has just as good a chance. Chris Waller saddles a horse last seen running well at Randwick.

It was a solid effort to finish second behind favourite Sheza Alibi in the Agency Randwick Guineas, with that effort coming after a third-placed finish at Rosehill. Green Spaces is saddled by Bjorn Baker and hasn't been foot perfect in the previous races at Randwick and Rosehill. It should be noted that the horse has been involved in very competitive encounters recently and might benefit from this.

The Rosehill Guineas is a big horse race in the Australian horse racing calendar, with the history of this race dating back to 1910 and this is an Australian Turf Club Group One Thoroughbred horse race which is available for three-year-old horses who line up to compete for a substantial amount of prize money.

The race takes place over a distance of 2,000 metres and the winner actually gets exemption from being in the Australian derby ballot, so it’s a real bonus to get a guaranteed entry into this race.

Can Race Favourite Aegon Be Stopped in the Rosehill Guineas?

Aegon is trading at around betting odds of 2/1 when it comes to the Rosehill Guineas, with Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman training a three-year-old who has looked the part in his last few races. There was a recent seven-length victory in the Group 2 City Tattersalls Club Hobartville Stakes which saw Aegon beat race favourite Peltzer and that looks like ideal preparation.

Previously to this, there was a victory in the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai 48th New Zealand 2000 Guineas over one mile and there is every reason to think the horse will go close at the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, although there are other quality horses in the field.

This includes Mo’unga who won a listed race at Rosehill last September and has subsequently run in the Caulfield Guineas where the horse found others a little too hot to handle, with the horse most recently putting in a good effort when finishing third in the CS Hayes Stakes at Flemington.

There are then a spate of horses trading at around the 12/1 betting market in the Rosehill Guineas betting odds, with Cherry Tortoni and Rocket Spade among the runners. There is also Young Werther and Milford who will be looking to run into the places.

The History of the Rosehill Guineas

The Rosehill Guineas is one of the oldest horse races in Australia, with this originally being over a distance of 1,400 metres between 1910-1914, although this was then lengthened to 1,800 metres between 1915-1947. After this, the race was then over a distance of 2,000 metres and it achieved a Group 1 status from 1980 onwards, really putting it on the racing map.

Castelvecchio was the winner of the 2020 Rosehill Guineas, although there have been other notable winners of this race over the years including The Autumn Sun, D’Argento and Gingernuts, with Sky Racing the current sponsor of a race whose most famous winner was probably Phar Lap in 1929.
