However, the 2/1 success in the Spring Champion Stakes was the big effort that made everyone sit up and take notice. There was a third-placed success out of nine horses when running at Moonee Valley last time out, with a solid showing happening in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate, with Via Sistina proving too strong and favourite Prognosis was able to finish second. However, the horse wasn’t able to deliver as the 4/5 favourite in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas.

Red Aces was a winner at Moonee Valley at the end of October, with Nick Ryan training a runner who won the Drummond Golf Vase in Australia. This came after finishing second to Keeneland at Flemington in early October, with the latter also lining up here and he could end up being the each-way value when it comes to this race.

As mentioned, the AAMI Victoria Derby is one of the oldest horse races in Australian horse racing history and this is a race that is annually scheduled to take place on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The distance was originally 1.5 miles, although 1972 saw the distance of the Victoria Derby change to 2,400 metres before being extended further to 2,500 metres.
