There are a maximum of fourteen runners lining up in the Chipchase Stakes and Kind Of Blue looks like the one to beat. James Fanshawe trains a runner who was disappointing at Chantilly earlier this month when finishing dead last in the Prix du Gros-Chene. Having been sent off as the 1/2 favourite, a strong challenge never materialised.

However, previous form indicates that this is still a class act. There was a stunning win at Ascot back in October when winning the British Champions Sprint Stakes. A repeat of that performance could serve the horse well, with that coming on soft ground over six furlongs. Previously to this, there was a second-placed showing in the Haydock Sprint Cup Stakes.

Spycatcher could be a solid each-way prospect. The seven-year-old opened the season with a win at Doncaster at the end of March. That was in the Cammidge Trophy Stakes, with the runner then going well in the Betfred John of Gaunt Stakes over seven furlongs. It could certainly be ready to pick up the pieces if the favourite flops again.

Alyanaabi is a four-year-old with plenty of ability and this was in evidence when running well at Haydock in May. The even money favourite landed the spoils in the Pertemps Network Spring Trophy over seven furlongs before finishing a disappointing eighth at the same track. That was in the John of Gaunt Stakes where he weakened in the final furlong.

2023 Chipchase Stakes Tips

The 2023 Chipchase Stakes looks set to be a wide open encounter and Annaf has previously posted victories for trainer Michael Appleby. The horse was sent off as a 50/1 outsider in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot and managed to finish third, with connections delighted how the runner was able to perform over five furlongs. A repeat performance could be enough to land the spoils here.

Indeed, the horse has been running in esteemed company over the past few races and finished midfield at Haydock in the Betfred Temple Stakes, with El Caballo coming next in the betting for this race. The four-year-old put in a solid shift when finishing third in the recent John Of Gaunt Stakes and perhaps a shorter trip should suit on this occasion.

Brad The Brief is also capable of going well and it will be interesting to see how the six-year-old performs on his return to the track. There has been a lengthy absence since a lowly finish in the British Champions Sprint Stakes last October, although it’s hard to rule out a horse that managed to secure wins at Haydock and the Curragh last year.

Diligent Harry has previously landed a win at Newcastle this season when triumphing in the All-Weather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes, with the horse then finishing sixth in a competitive Duke of York Clipper Stakes at York before finishing fourth in a listed race at Salisbury, with Tiber Flow a four-year-old who could also be in the mix.
