Scottish Sprint Cup Betting Odds

There’s another wide open betting market at Musselburgh on Saturday, with the Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap being a fast-paced affair. American Affair has been installed as the favourite, although Jer Batt and Mon Na Slieve are also decent contenders. There could be lots of each-way contenders and it’s worth looking for bigger prices.

Cuban Grey is a five-year-old who has landed victories already this season. Fahrenheit Seven is a younger rival who can go well for trainer Mark Usher, while Jm Jungle could also go well. Cover Up and Curious Rover boast solid credentials and there are several horses operating at the 14/1 mark who could end up hitting the frame.

2025 Scottish Sprint Cup Tips

American Affair is likely to go off as favourite and the horse returns after a solid previous campaign. Jim Goldie saddles a runner who was disappointing at Ayr in the Gold Cup although that came after a solid success at Doncaster. On that occasion, there was a 4/1 success in the Betfred Portland where the horse obliged over five and a half furlongs.

Jer Batt runs for David & Nicola Barron and the five-year-old has previously gone well, most notably at Doncaster when finishing second out of fifteen runners in October. That came after running fairly well in the Coral Sprint Handicap at York, with the runner landing twelfth place at a big price and he could certainly hit the frame.

Mon Na Slieve is trained by Kevin Ryan and the most telling piece of form was his previous race. That came at Musselburgh in early April where the runner was able to secure a victory by a length. The 6/1 chance produced a fine performance over five furlongs and that came after disappointing showings at Wolverhampton and Newcastle.

Cuban Grey and Fahrenheit Seven are other contenders who were successful last time out. The former is a five-year-old who could be favourably weighted and is near the bottom of the handicap order. The latter was successful at Pontefract and that was a solid performance in early April, with this horse looking like each-way value.

2024 Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap Tips

Vintage Clarets could be the best horse to back for the Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap, with the five-year-old looking like a lively contender for this race. Richard Fahey trains a horse who was impressive last term when landing victories at York and Catterick, with a third-placed finish then being recorded at Doncaster.

Silky Wilkie is the hot favourite to win this encounter, with the five-year-old trained by K R Burke and ridden by Sam Feilden. The horse was underwhelming in his previous encounter when finishing ninth out of twelve runners and you have to go back nearly a year to find the last time that the runner was successful.

The horse ran reasonably well at Wolverhampton and Lingfield when losing in encounters to One Night Stand, with Zarzyni looking like another viable contender and the seven-year-old could be favourably handicapped. On the all-weather at Newcastle, we have seen a spate of encouraging performances including finishing second to Caston in February.

Fine Wine was last seen running at Newcastle on the all-weather when finishing sixth out of twelve runners, with this coming after recording seventh place out of a field of ten. However, the horse’s handicap brings him into sharp focus here, with Glorious Angel and Looking For Lydia looking like talented four-year-olds.

2023 Scottish Sprint Cup Tips

Some of the runners in the World Pool Scottish Sprint Cup have not competed for several months, with this including Came From The Dark and Catch Cunningham. The former has been away from the track for over 100 days and the seven-year-old finished fifth at Southwell last time out, with the runner experiencing a bump at the start.

As for Catch Cunningham, this horse has run in esteemed company and there was a sixth-placed finish at York Racecourse in early October, with this coming after a second-placed finish at Ripon in September, while there was previously a win at the Knavesmire when landing a 16/1 success when obliging by a neck.

Makanah returns to Musselburgh after previously landing a victory at the Scottish track and Julie Camacho will feel as though her horse has a live chance of success. Sent off as the 5/4 favourite last time out, there was a victory by a nose to touch off Lullaby Bay and that came after a sixth-placed finish at Doncaster when competing in the Coral Portland Handicap.

Silky Wilkie has been competing regularly since the season began again, with the four-year-old a little disappointing in his last race at Wolverhampton. Previously to this, there was a triumph on the all-weather at Kempton and it’s worth noting how regularly the horse has been finishing in the frame of his recent races.
