Audience could be the one to back when it comes to the John Of Gaunt Stakes. There’s a cracking card at Haydock Park on Saturday including this Group 3 encounter. Last October, there was a strong effort to finish seventh out of twenty at Ascot, with that coming after a flashy effort at Longchamp where the same horse was second in the the Group One Qatar Prix de la Foret.

Aldaary has produced some impressive performances during his career although a lengthy absence away from the track means that we can’t be completely sure of how the horse will perform. The five-year-old was last seen winning the 2022 Spring Trophy Stakes at Haydock Park, with the horse having won the Balmoral Handicap over one mile.

Angel Bleu has a strong chance of securing a success, with Ralph Beckett training a runner who was victorious last time out. The horse won in mid-May when scoring at Haydock Park, with this being another Spring Trophy Stakes win although this was the 2023 renewal and we will therefore see the previous two winners of this race lining up.

Jumby was out of his depth at betting odds of 50/1 when running in the Lockinge Stakes, with the seven furlong potentially more to the horse’s liking. It’s been five races without a victory for this runner, with El Caballo also bidding to return to the winners’ enclosure. There were off-colour showings at Ascot and Doncaster after a previous succession of wins.

The Astrologist finished well down the order in the Duke of York Clipper Stakes although perhaps the horse has each-way claims for this weekend encounter, while the horse was an impressive second in the Al Quoz Sprint at Meydan Racecourse and there could be a strong performance from a horse who should be suited by the going and distance.
