Doncaster Mile Stakes Betting Odds

There are a clutch of four-year-olds at the top of the betting market when it comes to the Doncaster Mile Stakes. Charyn, Knight and Holloway Boy are all trading at similar racing odds for this encounter, with the runners and riders having to tackle soft ground conditions. Astral Beau runs for trainer Pam Sly, with Grey’s Monument also a contender.

Charyn was able to deliver consecutive third-placed finishes towards the end of last season, with Knight running for Simon & Ed Crisford and this horse was able to impress when landing consecutive runner-up spots towards the end of the previous season. The soft going means that it’s all about finding a horse that stays the course.

2024 Doncaster Mile Stakes Tips

Charyn runs for Roger Varian and he’s the top-rated horse in the field, with the four-year-old having failed to win any of his previous seven races. Last time out, the horse finished third out of seven horses at Goodwood in the William Hill Celebration Mile Stakes, although the horse was slow away in that race and did get bumped in running.

The runner punched firmly above his weight as a 40/1 shot during a previous run in the Qatar Sussex Stakes when finishing third out of five runners. It was no disgrace to be beaten by Paddington on that occasion, with the horse having previously finished behind the same runner when landing third spot in the St James’s Palace Stakes.

Knight is another horse that catches the eye in this field and there was a seventh placed finish out of nine runners at Newmarket last time out. In the Group 3 Darley Stakes, the horse was too slow to get into stride, although a previous outing at Sandown was more impressive when narrowly beaten in the race by Chindit.

It should also be noted that Knight did beat Charyn in the William Hill Celebration Mile Stakes, with Holloway Bay the next horse in the betting. The four-year-old was last seen running well at Ascot when finishing fourth out of fifteen horses in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, with more improvement expected this season.
