There are eleven horses who are potentially going to line up for the Reynoldstown Novices Chase, with the majority of the field in with a chance of landing a victory. Jingko Blue has recorded successive wins this season and the six-year-old has been appointed as market leader, although Hyland is twice the price and also stands a serious chance.

Nicky Henderson’s eight-year-old has landed a win on three occasions this season, with Lowry’s Bar has been in the first two in the previous four encounters. There’s less weight being carried than the two favourites, while the same applies to Butch and The Changing Man, with White Rhino and Peaky Boy also potential each-way contenders.

The 2025 Reynoldstown Novices Chase takes place at Ascot on Saturday, with this being a competitive Grade 2 encounter which is run over three miles. Jingko Blue looks like a rock solid contender, with the six-year-old racking up the wins in a fairly short career to date. The latest success came at Windsor in January and this was after a striking success at Uttoxeter in December.

On that occasion, a nine-length win was established and the horse is likely to go off favourite, with Hyland also running for the Henderson stable. The latest effort came at Kempton Park on Boxing Day, with a second-placed finish in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase, with only two and a half lengths separating him from odds-on favourite The Jukebox Man.

This came after October and November successes at Cheltenham, with Hyland coming on good ground at Prestbury Park. There was also a striking victory in a novices’ chase where a fifteen length success was achieved. There could also be a decent showing from Lowry’s Bar and the seven-year-old has run plenty of times this season.

At Windsor last time out, there was only two lengths separating the runner from Jingko Blue and perhaps this horse represents the best each-way value. This came after successes at Chepstow and Exeter, with Philip Hobbs and Johnson White saddling a horse who is followed in the betting by Butch and The Changing Man.

2024 Reynoldstown Novices' Chase Tips

Apple Away may have only won one of the three outings this season, although the seven-year-old could go well for trainer Lucinda Russell. The horse was something of a surprise winner of the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle back in April when triumphing at odds of 16/1, with the horse most recently seen finishing second at Warwick.

That runner-up placing behind Grey Dawning was by fourteen lengths although the bookmakers regard Apple Away as the one to beat, with a victory recorded at Leicester in December. Perhaps Brave Kingdom will offer the most resistance and we’ve been taken by the back to back wins recorded by this horse during the season to date.

Paul Nicholls trains an eight-year-old who has strong credentials, with wins coming at Plumpton and Newbury so far this season. The most recent victory came in December, with the 15/8 shot winning over nearly three miles and that came after a victory over a shorter distance in November so the runner has to be considered.

Kilbeg King has posted three consecutive third-placed finishes this season and perhaps the horse will follow the front two in the betting home once again. His last race was on Boxing Day where the runner produced a fine run despite being sent off at odds of 28/1. It was no disgrace to follow home shorter-priced horses in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.

2023 Reynoldstown Novices Chase Tips

The Bateaux London Reynoldstown Novices' Chase could give us some valuable pointers as far as the 2023 Cheltenham Festival is concerned. Bold Endeavour heads the betting market and the Nicky Henderson-trained runner is bidding for his third successive victory, with the seven-year-old looking like the one to beat over three miles at Ascot Racecourse.

There was a handicap chase win at Leicester in early December and that was followed by a win in a more competitive chase at Doncaster. However, that was over a trip of two miles and four furlongs, so there is a question mark over the distance. Galia Des Liteaux is next in the betting and Dan Skelton has high hopes for a horse who has won twice this season.

The seven-year-old was able to score a thirteen-length win at Warwick on 14 January, with the runner beating Complete Unknown and The Goffer over three miles on heavy ground. That was after the horse was pulled up in the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase following a bad mistake early in the race although the mare appears to be back on track now.

Kinondo Kwetu catches the eye considering that the Sam England-trained runner has scored five consecutive wins this season and the seven-year-old has to be considered in this small field. Over three miles and one furlong at Aintree Racecourse on 23 October, we saw a narrow win in a handicap chase and Super Survivor is another runner who merits respect based on achievements so far.
