After a number of short-distance encounters on Day One of the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting, we have the Queen’s Vase Stakes. The runners and riders will compete over one mile and six furlongs in a bid to secure a victory and it will be interesting to see which three-year-olds are backed in the lead up to this encounter.

2023 Queen’s Vase Stakes Tips

The 2023 Queen’s Vase field will only start to become clearer as we get nearer to the off on Wednesday 21 June, with the early odds suggesting that we’re going to have an open encounter over a relatively long distance. Chesspiece is a horse that could go well, with the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained runner having obliged at York last time out.

Sent off as the 3/1 favourite, the three-year-old was able to win a handicap race over one mile and four furlongs, thus highlighting that he has the stamina to put up a show here. That victory at York came after finishing third in a competitive Darley Novice Stakes at Newbury Racecourse, with Military Order the winner of that particular encounter.

Hippodrome has to be respected based on efforts so far, even if the Aidan O’Brien-trained runner didn’t perform to scratch last time out. Back in October, the horse was sent off at 5/1 in the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown but was bumped and finished dead last, with the horse previously delivering the goods when scoring in a maiden race at the Curragh.

Hiawatha looks set to be among the Royal Ascot betting favourites, with the horse finishing second in the same race as Hippodrome last time out. This is another Aidan O’Brien-trained runner, with the horse only narrowly touched off by a short head. The charge previously flattered to deceive when sent off as favourite in the Goffs Million.
