Newmarket Racecourse featuring the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas

First thing’s first, Newmarket Racecourse actually comprises two individual racecourses, with the Rowley Mile and July Course hosting a string of prestigious races throughout the season and these tracks are primarily for Flat horse racing.

Many people refer to Newmarket as the HQ of British horse racing, with two of the Classic races being hosted by this racecourse and they come in the form of the 1,000 Guineas and the 2,000 Guineas.

There are 36 annual Group 1 races hosted in Britain and 9 of them take place at Newmarket, with racegoers able to enjoy high-class horse racing on several occasions throughout the year.

Bet on the 1,000 and 2,000 Guineas

The 1,000 Guineas and the 2,000 Guineas are the two most prominent races that take place on the Rowley Mile course, with the former open to three-year-old fillies and this generally takes place on a Sunday.

The distance is over one mile and is generally scheduled to take place either in late April or early May, with this taking place the day after the 2,000 Guineas. Winter, Billesdon Brook and Hermosa are recent winners of this race.

The 2,000 Guineas is the first Classic horse race on the Flat that takes place, with this also taking place over the distance of a mile, with Magna Grecia, Saxon Warrior and Churchill all having delivered for trainer Aidan O’Brien in recent years.

Bet on the Cesarewitch and Cambridgeshire Handicaps

The Cesarewitch Handicap and Cambridgeshire Handicap are known as the Autumn Double, with these races also being run on the Rowley Mile track, with the latter being run over a distance of one mile and one furlong.

It is a race that dates back to 1839, with the Cesarewitch run over the longer distance of two miles and two furlongs. This race is scheduled to take place in October and is a real stamina-sapping encounter, with Low Sun and Sweet Selection among the most recent winners.

Enjoy a Feast of Horse Racing at Newmarket

The racing season at Newmarket begins in April when the Rowley Mile hosts races such as the Nell Gwyn Stakes and Craven Stakes, while the action quickly moves on to the 1,000 Guineas and the 2,000 Guineas.

From July onwards, the action moves on to the July Course, with the Falmouth Stakes and the July Cup both Group 1 races that take place during this meeting and the former is a one-mile encounter which has been dominated by three and four-year-olds.

The July Cup is run over a distance of six furlongs, with this being one of the most valuable Flat races and this was won by trainer Aidan O’Brien in the previous couple of years, with Ryan Moore steering US Navy Flag and Ten Sovereigns to victory.

In August, the July Course hosts the Hopeful Stakes and Sweet Solera Stakes, with the action then switching back to the Rowley Mile, with the prestigious Fillies’ Mile taking place and that’s a Group 1 encounter.
