The Boodles May Festival is Huge at Chester

The Boodles May Festival is a three-day meeting that takes place towards the end of spring and it’s one of the most prestigious meetings on the Flat racing calendar in the United Kingdom.

The odds for the Derby and Oaks regularly change as a result of the May Festival at Chester by virtue of the fact that several trials races take place over the three days, with City Day occurring on Day One of the meeting and that includes the Chester Vase and the Cheshire Oaks.

The Chester Vase showcases some of the best three-year-old colts in the game and we regularly see a horse emerge to land victory and become favourite to win the Derby a few weeks later, with Aidan O’Brien regularly unearthing his latest gem.

Similarly, the Cheshire Oaks generally showcases some impressive fillies and it’s a useful yardstick for punters who are interested in placing a bet on the Oaks at Epsom a few weeks later, with the distance being the same.

Enjoy Ladies Day at Chester Racecourse

If Day One at Chester is exciting, then Day Two is glamorous thanks to Ladies Day where the fairer sex tend to come out in their hoards to enjoy a day at the racecourse and place a few bets.

The two high-profile races at Chester on Ladies Day of the Boodles May Festival are the Ormonde Stakes and the Dee Stakes. The former is run over one mile and five furlongs, with this being a race for horses who are four years old and over.

The Dee Stakes is a listed Flat encounter and takes place over one mile and two furlongs, with the race designed for three-year-olds only. This is another potential trial race as far as the Derby is concerned, with Kris Kin among the horses who have kicked on from victory in this race to score in the Epsom classic.

Chester Cup Day brings May Festival to a Close

The final day of the May Festival is Chester Cup Day and there are several competitive betting races when it comes to this racecard. The Chester Cup is a prestigious encounter and it’s a handicap race over a distance of two miles and two furlongs, with the race open to four year olds and over.

The Huxley Stakes takes place on the same day, with this Group 2 race being for horses of the same age and it’s a race that jockey Ryan Moore has won on five different occasions. Sir Michael Stoute also had a prestigious training record for this heat.

Chester Racecourse Hosts Many Race Meetings

Roman Day takes place at the end of May, while there are lots of summer events to entertain racegoers who want to come along and place a few bets on the action. That includes Summer Saturday where the gin is generally flowing on a hot day in June and there is plenty of entertainment in addition to the racing.

There is a two-day meeting later in June where we have a Ladies Evening closely followed by a Summer Festival and there is also an Autumn Festival which occurs in mid-September.

Bet on the City Plate, the Queensferry Stakes and Stand Cup

The City Plate is among the Listed races that take place at Chester, with the race run over seven furlongs and this takes place in July. The race has been in operation since 2003, while the Queensferry Stakes a six-furlong race that takes place either late July or early August.

Kimberella was the winner of the Queensferry Stakes in 2017 and 2018, with the horse becoming the oldest to win the race, while the Stand Cup is a longer race of one mile and four furlongs, with the race taking place in September.
