Nottingham Racecourse Betting Odds

If you venture east out of Nottingham city centre and travel for about three kilometres, then you will find Nottingham Racecourse which is located in Colwick Park.

Nottingham hosts Flat horse racing every year and it’s interesting to note that there are two courses at this location, with a smaller one inside a larger one. The distance of both tracks is roughly one and a half miles.

Inner Course Used For Spring and Autumn

Having two courses means that Nottingham can alternate the tracks for various meetings and protect the turf after the various meetings that take place. The inner course is used during the spring and autumn of the year, with this track boasting a five furlong straight.

During the summer, we have the outer course in operation and this has a slightly longer straight of six furlongs. Both courses have a sharp home turn and it’s often the case that the horse that hits the front will win the race.

Nottingham Racecourse is Historic

Nottingham Racecourse dates back to the 18th century, with race meetings taking place in 1773 at Nottingham Forest Recreation Ground.

However, the present site has been used since 1892 and both forms of racing (National Hunt and Flat) were in evidence until 1996 where a decision was made to simply become a Flat track on a permanent basis.

Enjoy Three Listed Races at Nottingham

The Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes is the first Listed race of the year at Nottingham and this tends to be run on a Wednesday in April, with this race being over a distance of one mile and six furlongs.

This race has been in operation since 1993 and recent winners include Elegiac, Mount Moriah and Elidor. Trainer John Gosden enjoyed successive victories in 2014 and 2015, with Flying Officer and Deuce Again.

There is also the Kilvington Fillies' Stakes that takes place in May each year, with this being a Listed flat horse race and this is a race open to fillies and mares.

This race has been enjoyed since 2000 when Hot Tin Roof triumphed in 2000 and Queen Jo Jo was the three-year-old winner in 2019.

The Nottinghamshire Oaks is another mares and fillies race, with this being run over one mile and two furlongs. The race was previously known as the Warwickshire Oaks over eleven furlongs between 2006-2013.
