This Grade I event is often seen as a pre-cursor to some of the most prestigious American races for fillies including the Kentucky Oaks, Black-Eyed Susan Stakes and Mother Goose Stakes.

The Breeders’ Futurity Stakes takes place later in the year and you’ll see it appear on Keeneland race cards around October time. As the name suggests, this is often regarded as a prep run for the later Breeders’ Cup meeting and this is a race for two-year-old horses over 8.5 furlongs.

The Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes is also popular when it comes to Keeneland odds and this is another October race where horses compete over the distance of one mile and this also feeds into the Breeders’ Cup meeting. Indeed, the winner automatically qualifies for the Breeders’ Cup Mile as part of the process.

The History of Keeneland Race Course

Keeneland Race Course was officially opened in 1936, with this forming one half of the set-up in Kentucky considering that a lot of the business is also afforded to Keeneland Sales which is a horse auction business on the same complex.

This is also a track that has hosted the Breeders’ Cup, something it did in 2015, with the Breeders’ Cup Classic being won by American Pharaoh as part of an American Triple Crown success.
